Quality & Design from Gerard

For decades, Gerard roofs have been acclaimed around the world for their innovative design, robust quality, and wide choice of finishes and accessories offered.

Gerard roof tiles have some unique features and benefits including:

  • The interlocking system

Gerard steel roof panels lock together to form a singular weathertight unit. Furthermore, the design eliminates any gaps where flying embers might enter.

  • Horizontal fastening

Unlike long-run and heavy tile roofs, Gerard steel panel roofs are fastened at right angles to the wind’s lifting forces – holding on tight even in Category 3 hurricanes.

  • Up to seven protective coatings

A Gerard roof has up to seven different coatings applied for long lasting protection. The final layers are applied after the panels are formed to avoid surface cracking.

  • A lighter load

Where a concrete or clay tile roof could weigh 10 tonnes or more, a Gerard roof can weigh just one tenth of that, which is particularly reassuring in an earthquake.

In compliance with the recent Building Product Information Requirements (BPIR), you can find the product information via the Gerard resource center.

Textured vs Smooth

The finish you choose for your Gerard pressed steel roof will make a major contribution to the appearance of your home.

Gerard’s textured finish tiles are made with natural stone chips – giving your roof a stronger, more substantial look, and added protection from the elements. Or, if you prefer a crisp look to accentuate the roof pattern and details, Gerard’s smooth finish panels are a great alternative to coloured steel but much more durable.

Use the image slider below to see the difference between a textured and smooth finish.

Textured Finish

Natural stone chips or ceramic pigments are fused to the metal tile with a base of acrylic resin and a resilient over-glaze. Some colours are completely natural; others are permanently coloured using ceramic technology.

Smooth finish

Gerard’s smooth finishes have special light-fast pigments and multi-layered coatings twice as thick as those on most corrugated metal roofing. Gerard’s smooth finish tiles are spray painted with a 45-micron topcoat of ultra-tough polymer acrylic after the shape has been pressed into the steel, ensuring a consistent covering with no micro-cracks.

Roof Care & Cleaning

Gerard Roof Refresh Cleaning Product

Over time, lichen and moss will grow on most outdoor surfaces – including your roof. Left unchecked, it damages the surface coating of your roof, creating ‘moisture traps’ that can cause corrosion. Using Gerard Roof Refresh will remove the growth and help prevent future problems.

Prevent growth before it happens

Gerard Roof Refresh is a powerful cleaning agent that targets not only the lichen, moss and algae, but also the spores that lead to it. We recommend treating the roof every three to five years, or sooner if signs of growth are visible (this is also required to maintain the warranty on your roof). You can either spray the roof yourself, or arrange a commercial contractor who specialises in this type of work.
